Ocean fluke to 27.5 inches - Solid bay action!!

Busy few days - double and triple charters in the bay on Thursday/Friday. Saturday we were in the ocean.

Bay charters are averaging 40 to 50 fluke per 3-4hr trip with keepers ranging from 1 to 4. Some of the fish have been up to 23 inches.

Saturday's ocean trip had return client Ralph Rodio, Dave D, Stefano R, and Big Fish Billy on a 5hr charter. The guys worked through 50 short fluke to box 5 fluke to 27.5 inches along with limit of sea bass and a lone triggerfish.

Next week's forecast looks 100% out for the ocean, but the bay will be in play.

Excellent ocean fluking - 4-man limit to 24 inches before 9am!!

Excellent fluking - I had return client Dave Dunlap and Ralph Rodio along with mate Luke T. on a 5hr ocean charter. We hit a small piece that we ended with the day before and we were done before 9am with a full boat limit. The guys caught 40+ fish and around 22 keepers. Kept our 12 from 19.5 to 24 inches.

Monday - I ran double ocean charters and it felt great to get out in Lake Atlantic - ended with 17 keepers to 6 pounds.

First - I had return client Robert Boyle and friends/family on a 5 hour ocean charter. We picked at fish ending with 7 keepers to 6 pounds along with some sea bass and ling. The guys released over 40 fish.

Next, I had return client Marty Burns and friends on a 5hr ocean charter. The guys had a better bite releasing close to 50 shorts while boxing 10 keepers to 23 inches.

Thursday - We had double trips, first with return Jesse S and his son in the morning on a 4hr bay charter due to the winds (originally ocean). The father and son team worked through 40+ shorts to box 2 keeper fluke to 20 inches.

Next, I had return client Tom Dillon and family on a 4hr bay charter, again due to the winds. But the guys did good job working through 30 shorts to box 2 keepers. We hit way too many spots, so definitely the east wind and full moon tide had an influence.

Friday - I had return client Bob Reim and crew on a 4hr bay charter due to the winds. The guys did a great job working through close to 40 shorts and boxing 4 keepers to 22 inches.

6 trips in the last two days - 5 out of 6 in the bay - tons of short life - tougher on keeps. We have some ocean-going clients for the next few trips, so it should be a nice change of pace as the ocean fishing has been excellent.

Monday

Trip 1: Return client Mike Geddis and his boys released 54 shorts and boxed 2 keeps to 21 inches on a 4hr bay charter.

Trip 2: New client Chris K. and his family tried to hit the ocean for a 4hr charter, but the Atlantic flu struck after the 1st drift. We lost some time on the run out and in, but they ended with a 5 pounder and 25 shorts in the bay.

Trip 3: New client Dean Scotton and family did a quick 3hr sunset ocean trip. The crew did a nice job releasing a bunch of shorts and boxing 3 keeps to 22 inches along with a sea bass. We had limited time, but the bite was pretty good even with a falling sun.

Tuesday

Trip 1: Return client Jay Philips and his family released over 40 shorts while boxing 2 fluke (19, 21) on their 3hr bay trip. The guys did an exceptional job jigging!

Trip 2: Return client Keith Linde and his son worked through over 40 shorts to box 2 keeps (21, 22). The guys worked hard through a bad tide on their 4hr bay trip.

Trip 3: I had new client Greg Sailer from my neighborhood along with his family on a 3hr bay trip. Although some were new to fluke fishing, they did a great job working through 40+ shorts and boxing 4 nice keepers to 23 inches. Young Sammy scored his first ever keeper at 23 inches and added another.

Lots of action with return clients Raffie and the Tall boy tanglers along with Mark on a bay fluke charter. 1-Knee Absolut EE was out of commission for this trip and for the rest of the season - speedy recovery for him. The boys worked hard releasing 52 shorts and keeping 2 keeps (20, 19).

It was supposed to be triple charter Thursday, but ended rescheduling the 3rd charter due to the T-storm line in the afternoon!

Trip 1 - I had new client Josh Susser, his brother Joe and dad Joe on a 3hr bay charter. We worked around the bay trying to find the coolest temperatures and ended up releasing 30 shorts while keeping 2 solid fish to 22 inches.

Trip 2 - I had new client Jaime and his family on a 3hr bay charter and we had better conditions, but tough on keeps. The new fisherman released over 38 fish with some so close to keeping - but the last drift magic occurred with youngest Drew boxing a 25 incher in skinny water. They had an absolute blast!!

With Friday's weather, our trips are cancelled - but may try to still sneak out with my second mate Jake T. to crab or fish the incoming....

Another busy double in the bay, hot temps and good action. Tallied over 112 short fluke and 8 keepers with 2 in the 5 pound range.

First, I had new client Jesse and his family from Virginia on a quick 3hr morning bay trip. This was the first time fluke fishing and they did a great job learning. Ended with over 36 shorts and 4 keepers to 22 inches. Tough conditions - 81F water and an outgoing tide. Great job

Next, I had return client Bob Dodds, Bert, and Cesar on a 4hr bay trip. We had fish right from the start and worked through over 70 fluke to put 4 solid fish in the box with two being at 5 pounds.

We did a short 4hr ocean trip with return client Joe L and crew. Worked only a few pieces as the clock was ticking - ended with 30+ shorts, 2 keepers at 20 inches, couple of sea bass, and a few ling. The guys had quite a few bites, some misses and ones that were very close to keeping.

In the afternoon, I had return client Mike Duus, his 74yr old father and cousin Aubrey on a quick 3hr bay trip. We worked the tide to produce over 35 shorts while keeping 4 fluke to 23 inches. Great job for the crew.

Busy few days: Thursday morning - I had return client Marty Burns and his buddy Elwood on a 5hr Ocean charter. We worked a lone spot to produce a quick limit of sea bass, 40+ short fluke and 7 keepers to 23 inches.

Thursday afternoon: We were stuck in the bay due to the heavy winds with return client Luke Warwick, his son Dillon, and Uncle Mike for a 4hr trip. The trio had very tough conditions - strong winds, outgoing tide and yucky water. They ended up releasing over 45 fluke boxing only 1 lone keeper.

Friday morning was a botched forecast as we could've hit the ocean, but I had return client Uncle Tom Joseph, Gary, and Hank on 4hr bay. They guys worked through 40 shorts to box 3 keepers to 21 inches. Looking forward to seeing the guys for October Sea Bass!!!

Ran the second trip in the afternoon for Nick Cardone and family. We fished hard for 4hrs and had over 40 shorts with 3 solid keepers and lone blowfish. Great afternoon and conditions for the crew.

Yesterday's morning bay charter had return client Chris V and family starting off with a slower bite. We picked and finally found a few feeding fish. Ended the morning with 5 keepers to 22 inches and released over 50 shorts.

Today's action was much better as I had return client Dave D, his son Bryce and Greg on a 4hr charter. We had fish right away and pretty much the entire trip. Ended with 7 keepers from 20 to 23 inches and released over 55 shorts.

Started off great - everyone was on-time, but a very tough morning for us!

I had return client Ralph R, Absolut EE, and the Tallboy Tanglers on a 4hr bay charter. We had a so-so bite the first hour boxing 1k and quite a few shorts. B. Dalton missed a few nice fish which came un-buttoned a few feet from the boat, and by the 4th one he was frustrated to say the least. We only ended with one, but had a ton of laughs as usual. Until next time boys... 1k, 20 tangles, and 6 Cut and Reties!!!

12k for our charters today - loving my summer office!!

Friday Double charters - I had return client Bob Reim and crew on a 4hr bay charter. Although wanted to hit the ocean, we opted for the bay with the forecast. The guys worked extremely hard to box 4 keepers to 20 inches and release close to 25 shorts.

Next, I had return client Matt Windover, his son & daughter and Charles on a 4hr bay charter. We worked a variety of different spots to produce 8 keeper fluke to 23 inches. The kids did a bang up job with the Hammer rods boxing 3 keeps.

I ran double bay charters today - funny how the winds kept most at the docks. Yes, drifting was tough and had to work your tail off, but put the work in and fish were biting- charters ended with 11k to 26 inches.

First, I had return client Kevin Murphy and buddies on a 4hr charter and the guys had to compete with lesser tides and heavy winds. Released close to 20 with 3 keepers to 22 inches.

Next, I had return client Brian B of upstate NY on a 4hr charter and we had wind against tide conditions. The guys battled to release 40 shorts and boxed 8 keepers to 26 inches with the smallest being 20 inches.

Double charter - I had return client Alex G and his son Jack on a 4hr bay charter. The father & son duo had some tough conditions and released close to 50 fish, but could only box 1 lone keeper. We had several that were a 1/4 inch shy of keeping, tough morning.

The second trip fared better with return client Mike F, Andrew, Jakob, and their grandfather a 4hr bay charter. The fish turned on, especially the keepers - the crew released over 60 fish keeping 6 keepers to 23 inches for the table.

Double charter today - First, I had new client Nelson B and his buddy on a 4hr bay charter. We worked a bunch of spots and the guys released close to 24 fluke while keeping 4 keeps to 21 inches.

Next, I had return client Andrew Gordon and family on their annual vacation charter running out of Bobbie's Boats Bait and Tackle. The group did an amazing job on the 3hr bay charter - releasing over 60 fluke while boxing 6 keepers to 22 inches.

Back at it after a 2-week break - Yesterday I had return client John Bidwell, his son, and grand-daughters on a 4hr bay trip. John couldn't attend, but the trio did a great job at catching close to 50 fluke and keeping 2 nice ones for the table.

This morning I had return client Ralph Rodio, Steve, Billy, and Nick on a Ocean Fluke charter. One of the guys was late to the dock which shortened our trip by an hour. We worked a few different areas and had a heck of a time trying to fish through keeper sea bass. The guys ended with 2 keeper fluke, limit of sea bass and a couple ling. Not great, but good enough to knock some of the rust off.

I ran a 3hr charter yesterday for new client & first time fluke fisherman Sheila M and her son Ray. I had enough time between my 1/2 day at school and evening graduation duties to make it possible.

We had a falling tide with water between 79/80F and worked a ton of spots. Thankfully I finally found an active area only about 25 yards long. The crew released close to 20 shorts and boxed 4 keepers to 23.5 inches, with young Ray catching his limit.

Back at it again - I had return client Alex Gal and his son Jack on a 4hr charter. The father & son team had less than ideal conditions with slack low and a 18 degree temperature difference. They worked through close to 30 shorts and boxed 4 keepers to 23.5 inches. Nice seeing kids that have been with you since a young age grow up as Jack will be entering high school next year.
