High water temps and Lesser tides - but found 4 keeps to 23.5in

I ran a 3hr charter yesterday for new client & first time fluke fisherman Sheila M and her son Ray. I had enough time between my 1/2 day at school and evening graduation duties to make it possible.

We had a falling tide with water between 79/80F and worked a ton of spots. Thankfully I finally found an active area only about 25 yards long. The crew released close to 20 shorts and boxed 4 keepers to 23.5 inches, with young Ray catching his limit.

Back at it again - I had return client Alex Gal and his son Jack on a 4hr charter. The father & son team had less than ideal conditions with slack low and a 18 degree temperature difference. They worked through close to 30 shorts and boxed 4 keepers to 23.5 inches. Nice seeing kids that have been with you since a young age grow up as Jack will be entering high school next year.

Better bite today - I had return client Ralph Rodio and crew on a 4hr bay charter. We worked a good number of areas picking through 25+ shorts to box 6 keepers to 23 inches. Ralph had a beauty on that broke off at the net on the last drift, so we will be after that one again. Great time as usual, lots of laughs!

Friday's report - We fished extremely hard yesterday running 3 charters, but between the winds and slime - it was tough. Definitely our toughest day this season, unfortunately sometimes the fish have to win.

1st - I had new clients Jeff G and family on a 4hr charter - the guys did their best as we moved from spot to spot picking at fish. They released about 20 shorts, but could only muster one lone keeper. We had winds over 25 and lots of dirty water.

2nd - I had return clients Dave D and Renn on a 4hr charter and they worked hard on a falling tide. We had several fish that were very close to keeping, but could not pass the 18-in mark. The guys released close to 18 shorts.

3rd - I had return client Robert Boyle and crew on a 4hr charter. We finally found some cleaner water and the guys picked through 25 shorts to box 2 keepers (20, 22). They also had 4 more that were 1/16 in shy.

Tough day - brutal winds and slime, but a couple of nice fish. to 24in.

I had return client Sean S, his daughter Shannon and boyfriend Chris on a 4hr charter. We had very strong south winds, but the trio worked very hard to release 40 short fluke and boxed 3 keepers to 24 inches. Overall, very tough on the keeper bite - but back at it!

We were back at it as I had return client Bob Dodds, Milton, and Burt on a 4hr trip. Worked a few different areas and the guys picked through 50 shorts to box 6 keepers to 23 inches.

I had return client George "Cookieman", Mike P, Mark, and Franco on a 4hr charter. We had stiff NE winds, but the fish were very active during the majority of the trip. We worked a few different areas and the guys boxed 7 keepers to 25 inches, while releasing over 45. Excellent time as always!

A tad late on the report - I had return client Marty Burns and crew on a 4hr charter. It was a mix of good action and slower bites, but the guys persevered to box 4 keeper fluke to 22 inches while releasing close to 40 fluke. Great trip with the group as always!!

Tough tide, but we grinded through to box 5 keepers to 20 inches with return client Bill Figley, his grand kids (Hunter / Mila) and daughter Theresa. The kids did a great job landing a solid 20 inch fluke on the hammer rods and we released about 23 fluke in total. But Bill was the high hook with his limit of fluke! Great time on the water!!

Better conditions - I had return client Bob Dodds and his friend Milton on a 4hr bay charter. The guy's worked hard to release close to 30+ fish after a few moves and we boxed 4 keepers to 22inches. Bob used the Hammer series rod and had 11 on his own and a real nice one that we lost boat side. Still a beautiful day on the bay!!

Slower fluking due to winds, slime, and cold water..

Back to back windy charters - Friday - I had return client Luke W and his 4th grade son Dylan on a 4hr trip. The father-son team had through fight 19 degree temp. swings, slime, and 20+ kt winds, but we still managed a few keepers. Although we missed a few nice ones at the surface, they released over 20 shorts and boxed a 19 and 20 inch for dinner. Highlight for Dylan was landed a 40 in smooth doggie in the back!

Sunday - more of the same - winds to 20 knts, slime and 58F water. I had return client Ralph R, Stefano, and Eric (Smokes Dalton was a no-show). The boys worked hard to release close to 30 fluke, but we could only muster 2 keepers. Definitely put the effort in. The 42in Hammer rod had 14 fluke and 1 keeper - definitely works well providing slightly better action on the light jigs!

I had return client Tim Murphy, Tim Jr. and friend Tony on a 4hr bay charter. We started in the same area as last trip and boxed 6 keeper fluke, made a move and added 3 more for their 9-fish LIMIT with the biggest at 24 inches. The guys released 45 fish. Great job by the crew!!

We had decent fluking with return client Bob Dodds, Cousin Joe, and Bill D on a 4hr charter. We worked some new areas and found fish on some shallow flats north of Forked River. The guys boxed 7 keepers to 23 inches while releasing 40+ shorts. Good trip on the water as always with the crew!

We took the Memorial Day weekend off - back at it this afternoon. I had return client Jared Burke, his son Braden, and Uncle Jim on a 4hr charter. We worked some old spots and new spots to release close to 36 fluke while boxing 4 nice keepers. Braden scored his PB with a solid 24.25 inch fluke and he also added a 23 incher, not too mention the high hook - great job for his birthday!!!!

Fished the last 2 days: Yesterday I had Robert Boyle and crew out on a 4hr charter on a super windy bay - it blew 15 to 25 and made drifting super challenging. The guys powered through it to box 5 solid keepers to 23 inches and release close to 35 fish. Superb fishing for the conditions.

Next, I had co-worker Jeffrey Mangold along with his boys and family friend Russ on a 4hr bay charter - wind was perfect and fluke were hungry. The guys released over 40 fish while boxing 8 keepers to 24 inches. Jeff was the high hook with his limit and the biggest of the afternoon. Great time!!

I had return client Ralph Rodio, Eric E, Stevie R, and Smokes D on a 4hr charter. They were definitely going for the Run DMC look. We had solid fishing much of the time and the guys worked through 40 fish to put 9 keepers in the box. No tourneys for the guys, but some nice solid fish to 5 pounds. The "Hammer" Series rod HS42 notched 2 more keepers to it's belt!!!

4-man LIMIT - Excellent fishing - I had return client Bob Dodds, Bill D, Bill D Jr and young Will on a 4hr bay charter. We fished a new area tough to get into, but our efforts were rewarded. The guys released close to 70 fluke and boxed 12 keepers to 6 pounds.

A little late on the post, but had a couple of trips and fluke fishing has been exceptional in some locations. Snot algae has been an issue, especially in our striped bass locales.

I had return clients Laura H and company on a 5hr charter - tried for striped bass in the back for a few hours - could only muster a 23.5 incher. Switched over to fluke and released close to 35 while boxing 5 to 23 inches.

Another return client trip with Cookie Man George and crew produced 7 keepers to 23.25 inches in 4 hours. We had fits of bites and dead zones, but the crew picked through 34 fish on the jig.

We are stacked with trips through the end of July, but may be able to squeeze one or two in during the week. Also we did have 6 orders for our "Hammer Bay Series" rods (HBS36 or HBS42) this past week, and these are going for $100 each: it's about a 2-week production time frame. PM if interested.

Rain cancellation - but ended up taking my 4yr old - nailed 2 keeps in less than an hour!

Today: We had to cancel today's trip as the weather was too iffy as the guys were coming from an hour away, so I took 4yr old Jake (2nd mate in training) to get out on the boat as he's been asking.

Ended up getting 2 keeps in less than an hour - Jake nailed the biggest at 23 inches with our custom "hammer" rods!

Jake's fish was on our custom "Hammer" rods - these rods are perfect for bay fluke fishing!! They have a habit of catching larger fluke due to the action and ability to work light lures!

I had return client Guy C, Ray C, Joey, and 11-year old Matt on a 4hr bay charter. Today was a little challenging with the wind and snot grass, but the guys did a great job working our custom baits to box 8 keepers to 23 inches. We released close to 30 fish in the mix and even checked out one of our seal friends to close out the trip!
