We had a few trips this past week 3hr striped bass and tautog, we bent rods but overall pretty slow to what we are used too.
Early in the week I had return client Rob Boyle of NE Phila., and crew working the back for stripers and tog one day after the heavy blow, our first drift got tight and fought a solid striped bass to the boat and on the 3rd run the hook popped. We had 4 more runoffs and released a couple of decent fluke. Togging was slow with dirty water and we released over a dozen.
Later in the week, I had return client Bruce Connor of Illinois who makes a few annual treks out to LBI. We had an extremely tough go with stripers as we could not even raise a run-off with live bait worked both in the beginning and end of the trip. Definitely had a few "fluke" bites, but dropped. Switched to tautog in gnarly seas, but we found a pile released some decent keepers along with another 25+ fish, Bruce kept our 2 for the table. Bruce was using our "togging rod" which we custom build and wrap (inquire if interested)!!
Not running this weekend and possibly the first part of the week as it looks as a nice NE will potentially develop.
